First Lady Did Not Benefit from Duty Waivers

Dame Patience Jonathan

The Federal Government has described an online report that a duty waiver was granted the wife of President Goodluck Jonathan, Dame Patience Jonathan  as a complete distortion.

Reacting to the online report in a statement last night, the Federal Ministry of Finance said the so-called waivers scandal “in which the notorious news website made outrageous allegations against the Office of the First Lady is a false exclusive based on distorted information.”

The statement, which was issued by Mr. Paul Nwabuikwu—Special Adviser to the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, said  the online publication merely extracted and distorted information on the list of beneficiaries of the revised waivers policy, which the Ministry of Finance voluntarily published as part of its drive for transparency and accountability.
